Books by Dr Stephan Neff

I have been writing books for rather a long time.

My earlier writing grew largely from my own experiences with mental health, alcohol addiction and recovery. Those experiences produced two books that remain important to me: Depression Lied to Me and My Steps to Sobriety.

My life and my work have moved on since then.

These days I find myself writing increasingly about medicine. Perhaps that was inevitable. I have been a doctor for most of my adult life, and functional medicine has given me a whole new collection of questions to think about.

The next book brings much of that together.

Think Like a Cancer Cell

If you want to understand cancer, it helps to understand the problem from the cancer cell’s point of view.

Cancer is complicated. Underneath that complexity, however, every successful cancer cell has to solve the same basic problems.

It has to grow when it shouldn’t. Refuse to die. Find fuel. Build a blood supply. Hide from the immune system. Survive in places where normal cells struggle. And, eventually, find ways around the treatments we use against it.

Think Like a Cancer Cell follows those problems one by one.

The second half of the book then turns the question around. If we understand what cancer needs in order to survive, what can we reasonably do about it?

That takes us through nutrition, exercise, metabolic health, repurposed medications, intravenous vitamin C, fasting, hyperbaric oxygen, heat, light and other approaches being explored alongside conventional cancer treatment.

Some have good evidence. Some are promising. Some are probably overhyped. And some simply don’t survive a close look.

This isn’t a book about curing cancer.

It’s a book about understanding it.

Coming soon.

Esmee The Mindful Mouse

Depression is a liar!

The whispers we hear that tell us we’re not enough; the doubts and judgements that we cast upon ourselves; the belief that we cannot rise, no matter what we do…

These are the lies spoken by Depression.

But, what if those lies were called out? What if those who were silenced by Depression found their voices and spoke THEIR truths?

The women who have co-authored this book share raw, vulnerable experiences that have shaped their journeys throughout life—many have endured trauma in various forms. They have also reclaimed themselves, healed through challenges, and now share their truths with the hope that masks of depression will continue to fall as more and more of our stories begin to be told.
